Lt. Gov. Tim Murray and State Democratic Party Chair John Walsh
Speak to Success of Recovery Act in Massachusetts
Despite Republicans Spreading Blatant Falsehoods on Recovery Act, Massachusetts Projects Already Underway and Jobs Saved Boston, MA -- Today, Massachusetts Lieutenant Governor Tim Murray and Massachusetts Democratic Party Chair John Walsh spoke first-hand to the local benefits of President Obama’s Economic Recovery Act on a conference call with reporters. On the call, they discussed the tremendous progress already made
throughout the state from the Recovery Act passed earlier this year.
On the call, Lieutenant Governor Murray and Chairman Walsh discussed the many projects already underway and jobs created by the Recovery Act. It has been just over six months since the signing of the landmark legislation by President Obama. In the face of an economic crisis, the magnitude of which we have not seen since the Great Depression, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act represents a strategic – and significant -- investment in our country’s future. The call also came in response to the many falsehoods spread by Republicans about the success of the Recovery Act.
Statements from call participants below:
Massachusetts Lieutenant Governor Tim Murray
“In the first six months, the Recovery Act has worked to stabilize economic conditions in Massachusetts, while creating and saving jobs in both the public and private sectors. As more stimulus projects are funded, and more jobs are created, we will continue to see significant economic recovery in Massachusetts. There is no question that without the Recovery Act, we would be in a far worse position than we are in today.”
Massachusetts Democratic Party Chair John Walsh
“The immediate instinct of Democrats is to get to work and do everything possible to avoid letting our economy get any worse…The immediate instinct of the Republicans in Washington -including our own gone, but not missed Governor, Mitt Romney - is to attack the idea of doing anything.”
“So we’ve got a lot of work left to do. It’s clear that when faced with a problem, Democrats respond with a plan of action. Democrats implemented an economic recovery plan despite the complaining and carping of Republicans in Washington and Boston. Our efforts have been successful in halting an economic free fall and we're beginning to see some elements of good news.”
